Housing Counts
December 2022 (data through 2021)
Each year since 2002, Family Housing Fund and HousingLink jointly publish data to provide housing leaders and stakeholders with a consistent means of tracking annual affordable housing production, preservation, and loss. The data set provides an annual accounting of affordable housing projects in Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and suburban communities, offering a systemic and consistent way of measuring progress to municipal and regional affordable housing goals.Housing Counts 2021 features housing production and preservation for projects with first finance closing in calendar year 2021. Additionally, we offer a Tableau visualization of all Housing Counts activity from 2002-2021 on our website.
MN Housing Measures
December 2022 (data through 2021)
Conceived in partnership with The McKnight Foundation, MN Housing Measures has evolved through many iterations through the years to its current form: an annually-updated, interactive, visualization of three key measures related to affordable rental housing in Minnesota:- Private Market Affordability: The percent of non-subsidized, publicly-advertised vacancies affordable to 60% of area median income, by metro area and region in the state.
- Subsidized Housing Stock: The total inventory of both publicly-funded affordable rental units and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers by metro area and region in the state..
- Funding for Housing: Statewide dollars allocated to housing from the federal government, state government, and philanthropic entities.
Streams
November 2022 (data through 2021)
Featuring over 133 thousand units of housing in this year's update, Streams is used by local policymakers, community developers, researchers, and others to:
- Search to see where affordable rental housing units are located.
- Refer people who ask about affordable rental stock.
- Verify their own data.
- Combine with other data to identify NOAH (naturally occurring affordable housing).
- Analyze data to better understand markets & answer research questions.
- Inform efforts to preserve affordable housing.

Twin Cities Rental Housing Trends

This series of visualizations features key metrics drawn from our Rental Housing Brief series but is expanded to cover the seven-county Twin Cities Metro, and delivered in an easy-to-read, interactive, Tableau dashboard.
In addition to the featured metrics of median rents, building type, and affordability of vacancies by area median income (AMI) band, this dashboard includes a comparison of one bedroom rents across three types of vacancies, supply of NOAH rental vacancies, and supply of specialty rental housing openings listted on www.housinglink.org.

Powered by our proprietary Twin Cities Rental Revue database, this monthly report series highlights the following:
- Median rents in the private market.
- Building type among advertised vacancies.
- Affordability of vacancies by area median income (AMI) band.
We also feature additional metrics including supply of NOAH rental vacancies, city inspection data, multifamily permitting, apartment sales, and more!
